Leaving town's not as easy as it used to be
When we were 17
Cuz moving now, comes with responsibility
Or that's what they want you think
And I know we're at each others throats
And I know we've been selling each other lies
If there's a moral to this story
It's that we're traitors in disguise
To our own lives
To see you crash and burn like this
Is something I'll never forget
Becoming useless and complacent
Is something I'll always regret
And I know it's the same sad story
And I know I've told it a million times
But when you grow up boring and lonely
It's all you can do to survive
Maybe someday when I'm older
I'll be standing on the corner
With a backpack waving my hand
Maybe then you'll pick me up
We'll talk about how we've had enough
And we'll realize that we can...
And I know we're at each others throats
And I know we've been selling each other lies
If there's a moral to this story
It's that we're traitors in disguise
To our own lives
Leaving town's not as easy as it used to be
When we were 17
